BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its annual All-America Team selections and major yearly awards following the 2022-23 men’s tennis season.

Six Gulf South Conference representatives were among the All-America selections, while Valdosta State’s Luca Mack headlined the announcement as he earned the prestigious ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership Award.
Mack put together an impressive 2023 campaign, finishing the year with a 16-1 singles record at No. 1 singles and was the No. 2 ranked player in the ITA Singles National Rankings. The junior won the Fall 2022 South Regional Singles Finals and advanced to the ITA Cup in Rome, Ga., where he suffered his only loss of the fall in the finals. As a result, Mack was named First Team All-GSC and garnered the conference’s Player of the Year award. He also received the 2023 GSC Champion Scholar-Athlete award.
Off the court, during his 2021-2022 campaign, Mack garnered the Student-Athletic Academic Spotlight Award for demonstrating outstanding leadership in academics. This award was chosen by Valdosta State’s Faculty Athletic Committee and exemplifies how he adds value to his academic environment.
ITA RANKINGS (Final)
The ITA also recognized Mack with singles All-America accolades as well as doubles honors alongside partner Rodrigo Carvalho. In addition, West Florida tandem of Tomas Descarrega and Facundo Bermejo and West Alabama duo Lucas Hammond and Marcel Hornung were also recognized with ITA Doubles All-America accolades.
Those recognized as with All-America status was awarded to those competitors who finished the season in the Top-20 of the ITA Singles Rankings and the Top-10 in final ITA Doubles Rankings.
