ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. —The 2023 Gulf South Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship began Friday with top-seeded Flagler defeating No. 4-seed Lee, 20-14, while No. 3-see Lander downed No. 2 Alabama Huntsville,
As a result, Flagler and Lander will advance to Sunday’s championship game scheduled for 12 pm ET. This will be Flagler’s second-consecutive appearance in the title game, while Lander will make its first-ever trip. Flagler 20, Lee 14 | Box Score
The Saints finished with a 40-24 advantage in shots, with a 32-20 margin with shots on goals. Flagler also controlled the ground ball category with 16-9.
Lee’s offense was led by Caleigh Kenna who finished with four goals. Brittney White and Maggie Luzier followed with three goals each, while Callie Curtis scored twice.
Lexie Morton paced the Flagler attacked with a game-high six goals, while assisting on two others. Katelyn Trainor had goals, while Carley Tepel and Sydney Onega followed with a three apiece.
In the cage, Kaleigh Bernard made 12 saves for the Lady Flames, while Lauren Ribadeneira stopped six for the Saints.
Alabama Huntsville 13, Lander 15 | Box Score
The Bearcats were on the short end of a 33-29 margin in shots, but finished with a narrow 25-20 advantage in shots on goal. UAH meanwhile finished with a 13-10 margin in ground balls and 7-2 margin in free-position shots.
Isadora Springer paced the Charger offense with a game-high five goals, while also tallying an assist in the effort. Sarah Cole followed with four goals while Chloe Wood scored three and assisted on two more.
Lander benefitted from a balanced attack as seven different players found the back of the net. Brooke Kelly, Emmy Peterson and Mickey Burnett led the way with three goals apiece. Peterson also tallied three assists, while Kelly helped on two others. Alyssa Suchan and Kasey Bronco also chipped as they each scored twice.
In goal, Shaina Doser recorded 10 saves for Alabama Huntsville, while the Bearcats Taryn Samons made seven stops.
