Lee Wins Third GSC Women's Golf Title

West Florida's Alia Scotka claims individual medalist

MOBILE, Ala. — Lee University won the 2023 Gulf South Conference Women’s Golf Championship on Tuesday from Robert Trent Jones Trail at Magnolia Grove, while West Florida’s Alia Scotka captured the individual title.

The Lady Flames claimed their third conference title since 2018 after recording a three-day score of 883 (+19). Lee finished the tournament with 36 total birdies, including 17 birdies on the final day, as it shot 292 in the third round. Lee’s overall score was 54-hole tournament record, surpassing its 2018 tally of 884.

Scotka completed her wire-to-wire run atop the leaderboard to win her first conference title and was UWF’s eighth individual medalist. The sophomore was the only player to finish the tournament under par as she logged a five-stroke advantage with a three-round score of 212 (-4—69-72-71).

Shorter’s Kiara Hernandez finished tied for second along with Montevallo’s Paulina Bermejo as they both shot 217 for the tournament and earned a place on the all-tournament team. Hernandez, who shot third-round low 70, recorded the best finish by a Hawk since Pauline Schoop took second in 2014. Bermejo meanwhile surpassed McKenna Montgomery’s fourth-place in 2019 for the highest-ever finish by a Falcon.

Rounding the top five and all-tournament team was West Georgia’s Maddy Schultz and Ainsley Cowart. Schultz finished the tournament fourth overall with a three-round score of 218, while Cowart was one shot back for fifth overall.
