West Florida Earns GSC Volleyball Title in Three Sets

PENSACOLA, Fla. — The top-seeded West Florida lifted the Gulf South Conference Volleyball Championship trophy on Sunday afternoon at the UWF Field House, defeating second-seeded Alabama Huntsville in three sets (25-21, 25-23, 35-33).

As a result, the Argonauts captured their sixth consecutive tournament title,12th in program-history, and earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship. UWF improved to 25-7 on the year, while UAH fell to 18-10 overall.

West Florida libero Meg Brackhan was named the Most Outstanding Player after tallying 15 digs in the title match. Bracken finished the tournament with 32 digs overall and averaged 5.33 per set.

She was joined on the all-tournament team by teammates Gabi Moulton and Annie Monaco. Moulton finished the match with a double-double as he recorded 44 assists and 20 digs to go alone with two kills. Monaco helped UWF lift the trophy with 13 kills in the deciding game.

Alabama Huntsville’s Tatiana Bonilla and Kiara Hill were also named to the all-tournament squad, along with Montevallo’s Allie Dishman and Auburn Montgomery’s Alessia Cappai. Bonilla finished with 12 digs Sunday’s match, while Hill had a team-best 10 kills and hit .286.

UWF rattled out to a 2-0 match led, winning 25-21 in the first and 25-23 in the second. The Argonauts hit .139 in the opening frame before notching an improved .216 in the second stanza. UAH meanwhile hit .118 in set one and .196 in second two. 

The Argonauts completed the sweep with a 35-33 decision in the third as they hit .217, while the Chargers swung .183 in the frame. The set score was the highest in GSC tournament history.
