GSC Women's Basketball Weekly Awards: Nov.14

The Gulf South Conference announced its women's basketball weekly award winners for Week 1 of the 2023 season with games played between November 1-12.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jada Powell, Gr., F, West Georgia

 
Powell led West Georgia to a 2-0 record after averaging 13.0 points and 11.5 rebounds over the weekend. In her UWG debut, Powell recorded a double after scoring 14 points and snagging down 13 rebounds. The graduate student also dished out five assists in the 96-65 win over Albany State. In the 70-53 win over Tuskegee recorded her second double-double of the weekend after recording 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in just 20 minutes.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Cali Smallwood, Fr., G, Montevallo


Smallwood helped Montevallo go 1-1 over the opening weekend. The freshman averaged 18.5 points on 50% shooting from the field. In the loss to Embry-Riddle, Smallwood finished with 18 points and three rebounds. In the 77-69 win over Nova Southeastern, the freshman shot 60% from the field and finished the game with 19 points and four rebounds.
