West Florida wins 2023 GSC Men's Soccer Tournament Title

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – West Florida men's soccer secured its 11th Gulf South Conference tournament crown in school history following a 2-0 victory over Delta State.

This victory grants West Florida the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II South Region Championship, while the fate of the rest of the league will be announced Monday during the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Selection Show on at 6:00 pm CT on NCAA.com.

The Argonauts were led by Most Outstanding Player honoree, Josiah Fontenot. He was joined on the all-tournament team by teammates Keegan Ancelin, Finn Werner, and Eduardo Pampolini

Also selected was Delta State’s Arturo Riestra, Zach Sorey, and Malo Clement, as well as Auburn Montgomery's Sean Keane and Brayden Strait, and Lee's Marc Ehmann and Matias Siems.

Pampolini converted an attempt from penalty shot to open the scoring for the Argonauts with a goal on a penalty kick in the 26th minute, giving West Florida a 1-0 lead at halftime. Fontenot then added to the cause, finding the bottom corner to make it 2-0 in the 60th minute.

West Florida control possesion in the second half, keeping Delta State at bay and holding them without allowing a shot and sealing the GSC title.
