GSC Host 2022 SAAC Summit in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its in-person summer meeting for the first time since 2019, with representatives from across the conference in attendance.

The three-day event featured a community outreach event where the student-athletes and their campus SAAC advisors volunteered at the Community Foodbank of Central Alabama. The group helped to pack meals that would feed 600 families in the Birmingham area. The group also heard presentations from INFLCR's Danielle Tate and Be The Match's Melinda Garrington

During the SAAC business meeting, the student-athletes voted to restructure the SAAC governance to an Executive Board with a President, Vice President, Secretary and Social Media Coordinator. Molly Hansen, a swimmer from Montevallo, and Sylvia Cortes, a runner for Alabama Huntsville, will serve as Co-Presidents for the 2022-23 academic year. Finally, the GSC SAAC Speaker Series will continue to be held, with a session in September and February, which will be open to all GSC student-athletes.
