NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — A quartet of women’s lacrosse players will represent the Gulf South Conference, as the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced its Division II roster for the 2022 Senior All-Star Game. The announcement marks the first-ever the league will be represented at the annual event.

OFFICIAL RELEASE

Lander’s Melissa Clapsaddle was the lone league representative named to the North Team, while Alabama Huntsville trio of Cara Brown, Hailey Gallant and Darby Smith were tabbed for South Team.

Clapsaddle was an All-GSC selection for the Bearcats in 2022 as the team was 10-8 overall and reached the GSC Championships semifinals. The midfielder was fifth among league leaders in goals (45) and second overall in draw controls (120) and draw controls per game this season (6.67). Clapsaddle was also an all-tournament selection.

Brown and Smith were both recognized as IWLCA All-Region selections in the mid-May after helping the Chargers capture GSC regular-season and tournament titles, and garnering All-GSC honors.

Brown, who was the GSC Player of the Year, finished the season pacing the conference in goals (71), points (78) and points per game (4.59). Smith was named the league’s top defensive player after anchoring a UAH backline that surrendered a conference-low 190 goals during the regular season, while individually being second among GSC leaders in ground balls per game (2.82) and caused turnovers per game (1.53).

Gallant, who also played a vital role in the Chargers’ success this season, finished the year listed fourth among conference leaders in assists (22) and assists per game (1.29), and was 10th overall in points per game (3.18).

The IWLCA also announced the rosters for the 2022 Senior All-Star games for Division I and III. The players selected in each Division have been divided into two teams: North and South. The Senior All-Star games will be played at Tierney Field at USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md., on Sunday, June 5, 2022. The Division II game is scheduled for 2:30 pm EDT and will follow the Division III (11 am) and Division I games (12:45 pm). Admission for all three games is free of charge.
