NCAA Men's Outdoor T&F Championships Recap: Day 1

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships have begun with five GSC Men’s Track athletes competing on day one. The championships will continue with the second day of competition on May 27.

Shorter freshman Jeremiah Sims, the lone GSC athlete in the long jump, took eighth place in the event with a leap of 7.53 meters. His eighth-place finish is the highest by any Shorter athlete in the long jump at the NCAA Championships. 
 
Mississippi College’s Cole Benoit ran the 1500-meter race in 3:51.52 for 21st in the event’s preliminary round. 
 
Lee’s Wynand Du Toit and Jeremiah McCain both ran races on day one. Du Toit was the only GSC athlete to compete in the 400-meter race. The senior finished 15th with a time of 48.62 seconds in the qualifying race. McCain missed the 400-meter hurdles final by just 0.02 seconds with a tenth-place time of 56.68 seconds. 
 
Alabama Huntsville’s Jacob Bishop was the final GSC runner to compete on the first day of action. Bishop’s 3000-meter steeplechase time of 9:15.23 landed the senior in 17th after the 2 qualifying heats.
