Men's Golf Trio Earn GCAA Awards

NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has released its 2022 NCAA Division II PING First Team All-Americans and the All-Freshman Team. Lee's Beck Burnette and West Georgia's Austin Fulton were among the nine golfers to receive All-America honors while Union's JJ Zimmer was named to the All-Freshman team.

Burnette led Lee to three event wins during the 2021-22 season including the first GSC Championship in program-history. The GSC Golfer of the Year helped Lee to its fourth appearance in the regional championship and its second-consecutive NCAA National Championship berth. The junior ranks fourth nationally with a scoring average of 70.47 and six top-ten finishes.
 
Fulton is second in the national rankings with an average score of 70.16 and six top-ten finishes. The UWG senior was selected to the All-GSC First Team as well as the All-Region team. Fulton wrapped up his season with a T-19th (224) finish at the NCAA national tournament.
 
Zimmer is the first Union golfer to be selected to the All-Freshman team. The 37th-ranked golfer took seven top-ten placements including his first collegiate individual win at the Tulsa Cup. The Union rookie was recently named to the GCAA All-Region team, after receiving GSC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-GSC accolades.
 
NOTES — The Gulf South Conference has had 137 athletes honored as GCAA All-Americans since 1978 ... Burnette becomes the first GSC golfer to win back-to-back All-American awards since 2018-19 ... Lee has now collected five All-American awards while West Georgia's total moves to four.
