GSC Announces 2021 Men's Tennis All-Conference Awards
2021 GSC MEN'S TENNIS ALL-GSC TEAM
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference has announced the 2021 men's tennis all-conference awards, as voted on by the league's head coaches.
West Alabama’s
Christopher Bulus was tabbed GSC Player of the Year, while
David Rieme of AUM was selected as the Freshman of the Year. Valdosta State’s
John Hansen earned Coach of the Year honors.
Ranked third nationally, Bulus owns a 13-2 record in singles play and 11-4 in doubles play. The Lagos, Nigeria native has held down the No. 1 singles spot for the Tigers in all 15 matches this season. He becomes the first UWA player to ever earn the league’s top individual honor.
Rieme is 11-5 overall for AUM this season including an 11-3 mark at the No. 2 singles spot. He joined with Joao Guaraiente to go 7-4 at No. 1 doubles for the 16th ranked Warhawks. A native of Valais, Switzerland, Rieme is the first AUM player to receive Freshman of the Year recognition.
Hanson has directed the No. 3 Blazers to their highest ranking of the season heading into the conference tournament. VSU earned the league’s regular season title after an undefeated run through the conference. Hanson has been at the helm for VSU for over 45 years and earns his 13th GSC Men’s Coach of the Year nod.
