GSC Announces 2021 Women's Basketball All-Conference Awards

2021 GSC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ALL-GSC TEAMS: EAST | WEST

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Gulf South Conference has announced its 2021 women’s basketball all-conference awards, as voted on by the league’s head coaches. Valdosta State’s Kwajelin Farrar was named GSC East Player of the Year, and Union’s Jaelencia Williams was named GSC West Player of the Year. Lee’s Julia Duncan was named GSC East Freshman of the Year, and Christian Brothers’ Emily Jones was named GSC West Freshman of the Year. Deandra Schirmer of Valdosta State was named GSC East Coach of the Year, and Mark Campbell of Union was named GSC West Coach of the Year. 
 
Farrar, a graduate transfer, has made the most of her lone season in Valdosta. She averaged 14.2 points per game and grabbed 9.9 rebounds per game (fifth in GSC). She tallied 10 double-doubles and shot 61 percent from the field, which is second highest percentage in the conference.
 
Williams started every game at center for the Lady Bulldogs this season. She averaged 16.5 points and 9.9 rebounds this season. She also tallied eight double-doubles and was first in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 62.8 percent. She was also the conference leader in blocks per game (2.1).
 
Duncan earned GSC East Freshman of the Week honors six times this season. She averaged 12.2 points and shot 44 percent from the field. She also shot 37 percent from behind the arc. Duncan started every game for the Lady Flames this season, and she scored in double figures 12 times.
 
Jones was named GSC West Freshman of the Week three times this season. She was the Lady Buccaneers’ second-leading scorer with 12.1 points per game, and she grabbed 5.3 rebounds per game. She scored a season-high 29 points in the season finale against Union.
 
Schirmer led the Lady Blazers to a 16-2 record and the top seed in the East Division. In just her second season at the helm, Valdosta State has produced GSC East Player of the Year and two more All-GSC selections in Kayla Bonilla and Jirah Ards. This season, the Lady Blazers are the top scoring defense in the league, giving up only 58.4 points per game.
 
Campbell has earned his fourth GSC Coach of the Year honor. Williams is the third GSC Women’s Basketball Player of Year Campbell has coached, and he had another First Team All-GSC selection this season with Shanique Lucas, who is fifth in the GSC in scoring (17.4 ppg). His Lady Bulldogs were efficient offensively, leading the conference with a 46.3 percent field goal percentage.
