Lee’s Quay Kennedy was named the GSC East Player of the Year, and Alabama Huntsville’s Sam Orf was named the GSC West Player of the Year. Auburn Montgomery’s Sam Youngblood was named the GSC East Freshman of the Year, and Union’s Justin Debuck was named the GSC West Freshman of the Year. West Georgia’s Dave Moore and Lee’s Bubba Smith were named the GSC East Co-Coaches of the Year, and John Shulman of Alabama Huntsville was named the GSC West Coach of the Year.

Kennedy averaged 17.6 points and 6.1 rebounds for the 13-4 Flames. His scoring average was the fourth-highest in the GSC this season, and his rebounding average ranked him ninth in the GSC in that category. He also shot 46 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from behind the arc, and 80 percent from the free throw line.

Orf, a senior, saved his best year for last. He led the Chargers to a 12-2 record and the West Division’s top seed. Orf averaged 17.5 points (fifth in GSC) and shot 51.4 percent from the field (fifth in GSC). He scored in double figures in 13 games this season, and he also shot 37.3 percent from behind the arc.

Youngblood had a great debut season in Montgomery. He started 16 games for the Warhawks and averaged 9.1 points. He scored a season-high 23 points against Valdosta State. Youngblood, who was also named GSC East Freshman of the Week twice, shot 42.3 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from behind the arc.

Debuck was named GSC West Freshman of the Week six times this season. He averaged 11.5 points and shot 44.8 percent from the field. He also averaged 3.3 assists per game.  Debuck’s play in his debut season helped the Bulldogs finish in second place in the West Division and advance to their third consecutive GSC Men’s Basketball Championship.

In his third season in Carrollton, Moore led the Wolves to a 12-6 record. With him at the helm, the Wolves produced All-GSC selection Michael Zabetakis. The Wolves won their final nine games of the season and will be playing in their second GSC Men’s Basketball Championship in three years.

Smith led the Flames to a 13-4 record and a fourth consecutive appearance in the GSC Men’s Basketball Championship. Under his tutelage, the Flames produced GSC East Player of the Year and All-GSC selection Beyuan Hendricks. Smith also had the Flames stout defensively, holding their opponents to 41.7 percent shooting from the field (first in the GSC).

Shulman led the Chargers to a 12-2 record, 12 straight GSC wins, and the top seed in the West Division. This season, the Chargers produced GSC West Player of the Year and two more All-GSC selections in JJ Kaplan and Seth Swalve. After winning the 2020 GSC crown in his debut season in Huntsville, Shulman will be looking to help the Chargers repeat as GSC Men’s Basketball Champions.
