BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference has announced its 2021 indoor women’s track and field yearly award winners, as voted on by the league’s head coaches. Celine Ritter of Lee was named GSC Track Athlete of the Year, Tytavia Hardy of Mississippi College was named GSC Field Athlete of the Year, and Zakiria Holifield of Alabama Huntsville was named GSC Freshman of the Year. Caleb Morgan of Lee was named GSC Coach of the Year.

Ritter had a stellar season on the track. She ran the fastest times in Division II in both the mile and 3000m. Additionally, she had the third-fastest GSC time in the 800m. On Saturday, Ritter became the first GSC runner to win an individual women’s indoor national title when she won the 3000m race by just over a second. She was named South Region Track Athlete of the Year and a First Team All-American by the USTFCCCA.

For the second consecutive year, Hardy was named both Most Outstanding Field Performer and Most Outstanding Overall Performer at the GSC Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship. She won the long jump (for the second straight year) and the triple jump events. She also finished as the runner-up in the high jump and tallied a third place finish in the 60m Hurdles. On Saturday, Hardy garnered First Team All-America honors after finishing in third place in the triple jump at the NCAA Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship.

Holifield was named GSC Freshman of the Week three times this season. She had the second-fastest conference time in the 200m and the sixth-fastest conference time in the 60m. Holifield capped off her solid debut indoor season with a runner-up finish in the 200m at the 2021 GSC Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship.

Morgan led the Lady Flames to their second consecutive GSC Women’s Indoor Track and Field title. He oversaw a Lee team that produced six GSC individual champions and included three NCAA qualifiers (Celine Ritter, Chloe Flora, and Toni Moore). Morgan was named GSC Women’s Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.
