BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference is pleased to announce that Valdosta State’s Clay Guillozet and Mississippi College’s Katie Taylor have been named the 2019-20 Commissioner’s Trophy winners.

Guillozet is Valdosta State’s fifth male winner and thirteenth winner overall. He is the university's first Commissioner’s Trophy recipient since Courtney Albritton in 2014-15.

Guillozet is also the first men’s basketball player to win the Commissioner’s Trophy since West Georgia’s Lonnie Edwards in 1997-98. He is now the fourth men’s basketball player to be bestowed this honor since the award’s inception.

Taylor is Mississippi College’s second female winner and 10th Commissioner’s Trophy recipient overall. She is the school's first recipient since Lisa Fernandes in 1993-94.

Taylor is also the first women’s soccer player to win the Commissioner’s Trophy since Lee’s Summer Lanter in 2017-18. She is the fifth women’s soccer player to be awarded this honor.

The Commissioner’s Trophy is the highest honor bestowed by the Conference and one of the most prestigious individual honors in Division II. The league initiated the men’s award in 1974-75 and added the women’s honor in 1982-83. The presentations of the Commissioners' Trophy as well as the Top Ten and All-Sports Trophies would have been made at the GSC’s Annual Awards Banquet in Pensacola, but the banquet was canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 concerns.
