BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference has added Flagler College as an affiliate member in women’s lacrosse, as determined by the league’s Board of Directors.

Membership for Flagler will officially begin on July 1, 2021, and the Saints will be added to the league’s women’s lacrosse schedule for their inaugural season in the spring of 2022.

“The addition of Flagler College continues to strengthen Gulf South Conference lacrosse,” said GSC Commissioner Matt Wilson. “We are excited about the opportunities we are providing in the Southeast for women’s lacrosse student-athletes and institutions.”

The Saints will immediately be eligible for all league awards and championship opportunities in their first year of play.

“We are honored to be joining the Gulf South Conference as affiliate members in women’s lacrosse,” said Flagler’s director of athletics Jud Damon.  “We are grateful to the GSC Board of Directors and Commissioner Matt Wilson for this opportunity and we look forward to competing in this great league.”

The addition of Flagler will bring the total number of women’s lacrosse teams in the GSC to seven. Full-time conference members Alabama Huntsville, Lee, Montevallo, and Shorter sponsor the sport, while Young Harris and Lander are affiliate members.

Flagler announced the addition of women’s lacrosse on September 16, 2019. There will be a national search for the inaugural head coach with an official start date set for July 1, 2020.
