BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference has announced the 2020 men's indoor track and field yearly award winners. Christian Noble from Lee was named GSC Track Athlete of the Year, Zach Hancock of Alabama Huntsville was named GSC Field Athlete of the Year, and Mississippi College’s Daviciea McCartney earned GSC Freshman of the Year honors. Lee’s Caleb Morgan was awarded GSC Coach of the Year after winning the inaugural GSC Indoor Championship.

Noble was named the Most Outstanding Track and Overall Performer at last week’s conference championship, winning four gold medals. He also earned both of these honors at last year’s GSC Outdoor Championship. Additionally, Noble is a two-time GSC Runner of the Year in cross country, winning the league’s individual championship in 2017 and 2018. Currently, he holds the top time in the country in the 3000m and the second best time in the 5000m.

Hancock won two events at the 2020 GSC Indoor Track and Field Championships, and he was named the GSC Field Athlete of the Year for the 2018 outdoor season. Hancock is one of two student-athletes in the league to notch an NCAA automatic mark this season (Noble). He is currently fifth in the country in the shot put and 12th in the weight throw.

McCartney was everywhere for the Choctaws at last week’s conference championship meet, finishing in the top six in five events and taking home medals for his performance in the 400m and the 4x400m relay. He also scored points in the 60m hurdles, long jump, and triple jump. McCartney was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Freshman Performer.

Morgan was the GSC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2016 and 2019, and the GSC Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year from 2015-18, which makes this his seventh overall honor on the men’s side.
