West Florida Earns All-Region Player and Pitcher of the Year Honors
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The 2019 Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) Softball All-South Region Team has been announced, with 15 athletes representing five different Gulf South Conference programs being honored.
West Florida senior Rhiannon Sassman was named the South Region Player of the Year after recording a team-leading 48 RBIs off 62 hits, 25 of which were for extra bases. The 2019 GSC Player of the Year and now three-time All-Region honoree ranks in the conference top ten for batting average, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage.
Her teammate Kelsey Sweatt was named the South Region Pitcher of the Year after being named the Most Outstanding Player at the GSC Softball Championship over the weekend. Sweatt currently leads the conference in both earned run average and opposing batting average, recording 131 stikeouts on the season.
