BIRMINGHAM, Ala
. - The Gulf South Conference is proud to announce its male and female Commissioner’s Trophy winners for the 2018-19 academic year.

West Georgia's Franziska Bremm and Cade Marlowe were named the 2018-19 GSC Commissioner’s Trophy winners at the GSC Annual Awards Banquet at the Hilton Pensacola Beach in Pensacola Beach, Florida on Thursday, May 30.

It is the second time in three years that both the male and female winners come from the same school (North Alabama). Bremm and Marlowe are UWG’s fourth and fifth Commissioner’s Trophy recipients.

Bremm is the second women’s recipient from West Georgia and the first women's golfer in league history to receive the award. Lisa McGhee (basketball) also won the award in 1985 for the Wolves.

Marlowe is the third man from UWG to win the honor, with the previous two recipients coming going to basketball players (Lonnie Edwards and Lance Reinhardt). Overall, Marlowe is the 14th baseball player to win the award, which puts the sport second only behind football for total winners.

The Commissioner’s Trophy is the highest honor bestowed by the Conference and one of the most prestigious individual honors in Division II. The league initiated the men’s award in 1974-75 and added the women’s honor in 1982-83. The Commissioner’s Trophies were announced at the annual GSC Awards Banquet where the Conference also recognized its “Top Ten” recipients and All-Sports Trophy Champions (Overall: West Florida, Men: Valdosta State, Women: West Florida).
