GSC Announces 2019 Women's Tennis All-Conference Awards
2019 WOMEN'S TENNIS ALL-GSC TEAM
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference has announced the 2019 women’s tennis all-conference awards, as voted on by the league’s coaches. West Florida’s
Berta Bonardi has been named the GSC Player of the year. West Alabama won the two other major awards, with
Haina Franco named GSC Freshman of the year and
Jeff Beaman earning Coach of the Year honors.
Bonardi is the top ranked player in the ITA Division II national collegiate poll and extends West Florida’s Player of the Year streak to nine seasons. The sophomore native of Argentina went a perfect 17-0 in GSC singles and doubles play, dropping just one singles match all year.
Haina Franco was one of three Tigers to go 10-0 in conference singles play, dropping just one set in the process. In doubles, Franco went 12-2 overall after teaming up with West Alabama junior
Sarah Manseri. She is the first GSC Freshman of the Year in UWA program history.
Fourth year head coach Jeff Beaman led West Alabama to a perfect 11-0 conference record, claiming their first ever GSC regular season championship. The #12 nationally ranked Tigers will be the top seed in the GSC Championships this weekend in Montgomery.
