GSC Announces 2019 Softball All-Conference Awards

Cori Cooper was named the GSC Pitcher of the Year, while West Florida took home the other three remaining major awards, with
Rhiannon Sassman named Player of the Year,
Teala Howard earning Freshman of the Year honors and Ashliegh McLean picking up Coach of the Year accolades.
Sassman, a three-time All-GSC selection, becomes the third Argonaut to be named Player of the Year and first since 1999. She recorded a team-leading 46 RBIs off 60 hits, 25 of which were for extra bases. The senior infielder from Orlando also ranked in the GSC top ten for batting average, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage.
Cooper is the first Mississippi College player to be named GSC Pitcher of the Year, following an outstanding season in the circle for the Lady Choctaws. She led all conference pitchers with an impressive 1.47 ERA, striking out 166 total batters in the process.
Howard made an immediate impact during her first season with West Florida, making key plays on offense and defense for the Argonauts all year long. The three-time GSC Freshman of the Week hit .457 with 53 runs scored to rank her second in the conference for both categories and was also ranked third overall with 75 hits.
First year head coach Ashliegh McLean led the Argonauts to their first regular season conference title in 13 years after going 25-4 in GSC action. She is the second coach in West Florida program history to earn this distinction after Tami Cyr picked up the award five times during her career.
