GSC Announces 2019 Men's Tennis All-Conference Awards
2019 MEN'S TENNIS ALL-GSC TEAM
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference has announced the 2019 men’s tennis all-conference awards, as voted on by the league’s coaches. West Florida’s
Serdar Bojadjiev has been named the GSC Player of the year. West Alabama won the two remaining major awards, with
Ilari Vesanen named GSC Freshman of the year and
Jeff Beaman earning Coach of the Year honors.
Bojadjiev earns Player of the Year accolades for the second season in a row and is ranked #5 nationally in the latest ITA Division II singles poll. He went a 7-1 in conference singles play and a perfect 5-0 against GSC opponents with his doubles partner
Vintino Galvao.
In his first year with West Alabama, Vesanen posted a team-best record of 14-4 in singles play, with half of those victories coming against conference opponents. The four-time GSC Freshman of the Week also went 15-4 overall in doubles action with two different partners.
Beaman is the first coach in West Alabama program history to be named the GSC Coach of the Year for men’s tennis. He led the Tigers to a 7-3 conference mark and 15 total wins on the season.
