2019 WOMEN'S SOCCER ALL-GSC TEAMS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
– The Gulf South Conference has announced the 2019 women’s soccer all-conference awards, as voted on by the league’s coaches. Following a perfect 12-0 conference season, Mississippi College won the three major awards for players, as Katie Taylor was named the GSC Offensive Player of the Year, Liza Wise took home GSC Defensive Player of the Year honors, and Erin Hederman earned GSC Freshman of the Year. Montevallo’s Jake Wyman was named GSC Coach of the Year.

Taylor was the main offensive weapon for the Lady Choctaws on their run to the GSC Regular Season Title, leading the team in goals, assists, game-winning goals, and points. She also led the league with .8 goals per game and 2.13 points per game.

Wise led the league’s best defense, as MC allowed just nine goals all season (15 games). She also had a pair of goals and three assists. This is the second straight year she earned all-conference honors after being named to the second team in 2018.

This is the first year that the league has honored both an Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year. Nobody from Mississippi College had previously won GSC Player of the Year.

Hederman was the lone freshman to earn all-conference honors this season, playing an integral role for the top-seeded Lady Choctaws. She finished second on the team with 19 points with six goals and seven assists. She was named GSC Freshman of the Week three times this season.

Wyman earns GSC Coach of the Year honors in his first season as the head coach of the Falcons, previously serving as the assistant for three seasons. Following a run to the GSC Championship Game last year as the seventh seed, Montevallo finished 10-2-1 in conference play this year and are fifth in the latest NCAA Regional Rankings.
