UWF, LEE Earn GSC All-Sports Trophies

ALL-SPORTS TROPHY FINAL STANDINGS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of West Florida and Lee University finished atop the final edition of 2017-18 Gulf South Conference All-Sports Trophy standings.
 
UWF repeated as the Men’s and Overall Trophy Champions, while Lee claimed its first-ever accolade by taking home the Women’s All-Sports Trophy.
 
The Argonauts won their third consecutive Men’s Trophy and eighth overall, which tied them with Troy State for the all-time record.  West Florida continued its domination in the Overall standings earning its fifth award since its creation in 2013-14. Lee University claimed its first All-Sports Trophy since official joining the league in 2015-16. The Lady Flames broke UWF’s 12-year hold on the Women’s honor and became just the second non-UWF winner since 2003-04.
 
West Florida finished atop the Overall standings, compiling a record 94.250 total points followed by Lee which collected 89.375 points. UWF captured its first-ever GSC Men’s Basketball Title along with repeat Championships in Men’s Golf, Women’s Tennis and Volleyball. The Argos also won Regular Season crowns in Men’s and Women’s Tennis and Volleyball.
 
North Alabama recorded its highest finish in the Overall standings with 77.375 points. Valdosta State placed fourth (76.000) and Montevallo (75.125) posted a Top Five effort in its return to the GSC. Mississippi College placed sixth (73.000), followed by Alabama Huntsville (72.375), West Alabama (66.500), Delta State (62.500), West Georgia (53.250), Christian Brothers (50.750), Union (44.000) and Shorter (36.375).
 
The Conference will present the All-Sports Trophies at its Annual Awards Banquet, Thursday, May 31, at the Hilton Pensacola Beach in Pensacola Beach, Fla.  At that time, the GSC will also recognize its "Top Ten" student-athletes, announce the winners of the Commissioner's Trophies.
