GSC Announces 2018 Women's Soccer All-Conference Awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference has announced the 2018 women’s soccer all-conference awards, as voted on by the league’s coaches. West Florida’s
Esthefanny Barreras and West Alabama’s
TeMia Pride have been named the GSC Co-Players of the Year. West Florida’s
Peyton Peffers has been named the GSC Freshman of the Year, while West Florida’s
Joe Bartlinski has been named GSC Coach of the Year.
Barreras was dominant in goal for the Argos this season. In 17 starts, she allowed just five goals. Entering postseason play this week, she has registered eight shutouts, which is best in the conference. She also leads the league with a .320 goals against average. Barreras was named GSC Defender of the Week five times this season. She is the eighth UWF player to win this award since 2005.
Pride scored 17 goals this season, four more than any other player in the conference. She also had four assists for a conference-best point total of 38. She scored multiple goals in five games this season and was twice named GSC Player of the Week. This is the second time in her career that Pride has been named First Team All-GSC. This is the second time that a West Alabama player has been named GSC Player of the Year (Nicki Gears, 2013).
Peffers was named First Team All-GSC in addition to taking home GSC Freshman of the Year honors. The freshman led the regular season conference champions in goals (10) and was second in points (22). Peffers started 16 games for the undefeated Argos and scored the game-winning goal six times. She was named GSC Freshman of the Week twice this season and GSC Player of the Week once. She was the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week for the week of October 3
rd, scoring four goals and tallying an assist in two conference victories. Peffers is the sixth Argo in league history to win this award.
Bartlinksi led UWF to an undefeated regular season, and the Argos will enter postseason play as the #2 team in the country. West Florida dominated all year, scoring 57 times and yielding just 8 goals. This continues a trend of success, as the Argonauts have advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in each of the last two seasons. This is the seventh time in his career that Bartlinski has been named GSC Coach of the Year, and it is his fourth award since 2012. No other women’s soccer coach in league history has won this award more than three times.
