Chris Manning Nominated for 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

CLINTON, Miss. --- Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced 146 nominees for the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® on Monday (July 10), one of the most prestigious off-the-field honors in college football.
Senior
Chris Manning (Section, Ala.) has been nominated by the Mississippi College football program and is the only nominee from the Gulf South Conference. While starting as a defensive back in his first three seasons in Clinton, Manning has posted a 3.08 grade-point-average in Psychology, while also serving the community in several different capacities.
While serving as the football team's representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, he and his fellow Choctaws and Lady Choctaws helped to raise over $19,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and had the privilege of granting a wish at the spring football game in 2017.
Manning has also served with his teammates at Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson, Miss. while also helping at Camp 119 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, which is a camp for kids ages 6-12 that includes sports, camp games and other various indoor/outdoor activities. He has also served as an after-school tutor through the Community Service office at MC.
On the field, Manning was named the team's Defensive Rookie of the Year (2014) as a freshman, also earning All-NCCAA honors (2015). He was also given the team's "Choctaw Award" (2015), which embodies a model football player on and off the field.
Manning is a three-time Gulf South Conference FireSeeds Academic Honor Roll selection and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team in 2016.

The student-athletes nominated for this esteemed award embody the true spirit of teamwork and selflessness, donating their limited free time to helping and serving others. From founding a non-profit that helps orphans secure jobs in the workforce to raising funds and awareness for childhood cancer research, the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
® nominees may wear different jerseys on the field, but they all exemplify a superior commitment to giving back off of it.
"After looking at the bios of the 146 nominees we received for 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, it really shows that there are great football student-athletes all over this country who just don't care what happens between the sidelines, but they also care about their community and giving back to others," Todd Berry, AFCA Executive Director said. Comprised of 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA, the final roster of 22 award recipients will be unveiled in September. From the nominees submitted by sports information directors across the nation on behalf of their schools, a special voting panel consisting of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
® members and prominent college football media members will select the 2017 Good Works Team
®. Two-time national champion, Heisman Trophy winner and 2009 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
® member Tim Tebow will headline the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
® voting panel.
