HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tyler Mauzy homered in the top of the first to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
- Union extended its lead to 2-0 when Dylan Moore scored on a sac fly by Austin Orr.
- The Blazers cut the Bulldogs' lead in half, 2-1, when Kendall Herron scored on a sac fly by Chipper Andzel.
- Union scored run runs in the top of the fifth. Hayden Lewis smashed a three-run home run to right centerfield, extending the Bulldogs' lead 5-1. Moore followed with a solo shot to right field to put Union up 6-1.
- The Blazers loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with no outs. Wortham scored on a wild pitch, and Clint Carr's three-run home run to right field made it a one-run game as Valdosta State cut Union's lead, 6-5.
- But the Bulldogs added an insurance run in the top of the eighth when Nolen Milton scored on an RBI single by Moore.
- In the top of the ninth, David Robins scored Union's eighth run of the game on an error, and Mauzy scored Union's ninth and final run of the game on a wild pitch.
NOTABLES
- The Bulldogs hit three home runs to seal the win, tying the second most they have hit in a single game.
- Carr's three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh was his first of the season.
- Starting pitcher for the Bulldogs, JR Miller, sacrificed four hits-the second fewest hits he has given up all season.
- The Valdosta State pitching staff gave up 17 hits-the second most they have given up in a single game.
