Bremm Earns Top Honor in GSC Women's Golf Awards
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the second straight season, West Georgia's
Franziska Bremm has been named the Gulf South Conference's Golfer of the Year. West Alabama's
Alicia Fajardo-Monzon has been named the GSC Freshman of the Year, while West Georgia's Barry Harwell has been named GSC Coach of the Year.
Bremm is just a sophomore, but she has already made GSC history, becoming only the fourth person to win GSC Golfer of the Year multiple times. This year, Bremm competed in 10 tournaments and finished in the top 10 in nine of them, including six top fives and two victories. Bremm had the lowest average in the league and also had one round where she posted a 67, the conference's lowest round of the year. Her top five finish at the conference championship helped propel the Wolves to their first conference title in school history.
Fajardo-Monzon posted the lowest average in the conference amongst all freshmen, and in a year where three freshmen earned all-conference honors, Fajardo-Monzon takes home the top prize. Fajardo-Monzon finished in the top 10 three times this year, including a pair of top five finishes. At the conference tournament, she was the highest finishing freshman, placing in a tie for sixth place.
Coach Harwell is winning GSC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career, taking home the honor after guiding the Wolves to the conference title. West Georgia had three of the top five finishers at the conference championship and were able to pull out the victory over West Florida and Lee, who were each ahead of UWG in the regional rankings.
West Alabama's
Savannah Payne was named second team all-conference, the fourth time that she has earned all-conference honors in her career.
