Coyne and Brewer Named Honorable Mention All-Americans

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – UWF women's basketball standouts
Toni Brewer and
Alex Coyne were named to the 2017 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Women's Basketball All-America Team, as announced on Monday.
Both student-athletes were named Honorable Mention, becoming just the third and fourth players in program history to achieve All-America status. The two previous honorees were Denise McDonald in 1986 and Kristi Jernigan in 1992.
Coyne has averaged 10.5 points and 6.9 assists per game while leading UWF to its first NCAA South Region Championship. A senior from Pittsburgh, Pa., she ranks second in the country in assists per game and her 415 helpers in the last two years are the second-most in all Division II. She was most recently named the South Region Most Outstanding Player after posting 11.0 points and 10.0 assists per game with two double-doubles in the three victories. She was a First Team All-Gulf South Conference pick and the GSC Player of the Year
Brewer has averaged 13.8 points and 11.6 rebounds per game, while recording 19 double-doubles to rank sixth in the country. The Huntsville, Ala. native is seventh nationally in rebounds and second in UWF history with 862. The junior was also named First Team All-GSC and has scored 1,137 career points.
These teams are sponsored by the D2CCA and voted on by the sports information directors across the country.
Both players were previously named to the D2CCA South All-Region Team, joining Destiny Betts of Benedict, Madi Mitchell of Valdosta State and region Player of the Year Victoria Vine of Eckerd.
17th-ranked and No. 7 seed UWF (28-6) will open play in the NCAA Division II Women's Elite Eight on Tuesday against third-ranked and No. 2 seed Cal Baptist (34-2). Tip-off at Alumni Hall on the campus of Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio is set for 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The game can be watched online at GoArgos.com.
