- The Gulf South Conference is guaranteed its 14th Super Region 2 Champion in the last 16 years. West Alabama and West Florida will each be looking for their first regional title.
-The GSC is the only conference with two schools remaining in the field.
-West Florida has won four straight games, last losing to West Alabama on October 28.
-West Alabama quarterback Harry Satterwhite is a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, the top individual award in Division II.
-West Florida’s miraculous run to the Elite Eight builds upon the history the Argonauts have already made. UWF was the first ever second year program to even qualify for the NCAA Football Championship, much less make the national quarterfinals.
-Donta Armstrong leads the GSC in receptions per game and receiving yards per game. The senior had a pair of touchdown receptions in the Tigers’ win over Delta State last week.
-Mike Beaudry, the GSC Offensive Freshman of the Year, is second in the league in passing yards per game, trailing only Satterwhite. His top target, Antoine Griffin, ranks third in the league in receiving yards per game.
-West Florida is giving up an average of 12.5 points per game in its last four games. West Alabama averages 38.3 points per game.
-West Alabama is 4-4 all-time in the NCAA Division II Football Championship. Before last week’s victory, the last UWA postseason win came in 2012.
