Birmingham, AL
—The Gulf South Conference is proud to announce its 19th annual GSC “Top Ten” Award winners.
These awards, based on athletic, academic and extracurricular achievement during the 2014-15 academic year, recognize the top five male and top five female student-athletes as the cream of the GSC crop. The top male and female receive the Commissioner’s Trophy, the Conference’s most prestigious honor.
The presentations will be made at the GSC’s Annual Awards Banquet, Thursday, June 25, at the Sandestin Beach Resort in Destin, Fla. starting at 6:30 pm.  The entire ceremony will be streamed LIVE and can be accessed HERE.  Fans can also check out the 2015 GSC "Top Ten" picture album on our official Facebook page HERE and can follow the Top Ten conversation by using #GSCTop10
On Thursday night, the Conference will reveal the winners of the Commissioner’s Trophies and recognize its All-Sports Trophy Champions (Overall: West Florida, Men: West Alabama, Women: West Florida).
The “Top Ten” are selected with the assistance of an advisory committee representing the ADs, SWAs, SIDs, FARs and Presidents from randomly selected GSC schools, which makes a recommendation to the Commissioner, who has the final decision.
Four seniors highlight the five women’s winners: Courtney Albritton (Valdosta State, Softball, Sycamore, Ga.), Taylor Holland (Delta State, Softball, Grenada, Miss.), Amy Philamlee (Union, Basketball, Jonesboro, Ark.) and Paige Rowland (Shorter, Softball, Eufaula, Ala.).  Completing the list is junior Chloe Richards (North Alabama, Soccer, Cornwall, England).
Albritton is the defending female GSC Commissioner's Trophy winner.  She is also the 18th all-time back-to-back Top Ten winner and her honor marks the fourth straight year that a VSU softball standout advanced to the Top Ten.  DSU provided a women's Top Ten winner for the second year in a row, as Holland became the first Lady Statesmen softball winner since Alyse Hasty secured the Commissioner's Trophy in 2006.  UNA advanced a women's soccer standout to the Top Ten for the fourth time in the last five years, as Richards follows three-time winner Nikki Brown.  Philamlee and Rowland each made history, earning their respective school's first-ever Top Ten honor in their first year of eligibility.
A trio of seniors highlight the five male Top Ten winners: Kyle Caldwell (West Alabama, Football, Dadeville, Ala.), Trey Casey (Christian Brothers, Basketball, Cincinnati, Ohio) and Lucas Mould (Alabama Huntsville, Baseball, Athens, Ala.).  The pair of underclassmen include junior Lee Mayhall (North Alabama, Football, Jackson, Tenn.) and sophomore Tyler Sullivan (Delta State, Football, Louisville, Miss).
Caldwell's selection marks UWA's first back-to-back winner since former UWA quarterback, and current Tigers' head coach, Brett Gilliland won in 2003 and 2004.  Casey made it three in a row for CBU and his 2015 honor upped the number of back-to-back all-time Top Ten winners to 19.  Mould is UAH's second baseball Top Ten winner in as many years and his selection extends UAH’s streak to six.  Mayhall is the first-ever Lions' football student-athlete to be recognized in the GSC “Top Ten/Top Eight” since 1997.  Sullivan is DSU’s second football winner in four years and fourth consecutive men’s honoree.
