Chattanooga, Tenn. – University of West Florida men’s soccer head coach Bill Elliott had another successful summer leading Chattanooga FC of the National Premier Soccer League to a third consecutive NPSL Southeastern Conference championship.
The team advanced to the league’s championship match for the second time in Elliott’s career, but fell in the title match.
Elliott has also been awarded the Alexander Arellano Memorial Trophy given to the top head coach in the NPSL as voted on by the teams themselves.
The Elliott-led squad went 15-3-2 during the season and went on a 13-game unbeaten streak at the end of the season before falling to the New York Red Bulls U-23 team in the championship match. Chattanooga FC scored the match’s first goal in the 15th minute but only held the lead for eight minutes when New York scored in the 23rd minute. The match would remain tied until the 85th minute when New York took the 2-1 edge and added a third to take the NPSL championship.
Two players tied with West Florida joined Elliott on the squad in Graduate Assistant Andrew Stewart and former Argonaut defender James Moore. Stewart joined the UWF men’s soccer program last season after spending his undergraduate career playing for Milligan College. Moore played at UWF for two seasons where he was a top defender for the Argonauts.
Elliott will look to lead West Florida to another successful season after capturing the program’s ninth Gulf South Conference Championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament third round in 2013.
