Fred McAfee to be Featured Speaker at Mississippi College Athletics Dinner

 Mississippi College is pleased to announce that the featured speaker for the 2014 Mississippi College Athletics Dinner "Celebrating Choctaw Athletics," will be former All-American and 16-year NFL veteran, Fred McAfee. The dinner is schedule for Thursday, October 23rd at 6:30 p.m. in Anderson Hall.

The annual Mississippi College Athletics Dinner has become the most important night of the year for the athletic department. In just 12 years over $1,000,000 has been raised including over $160,000 just last year. The past speakers have included Bobby Bowden, Van Chancellor, Mike Bianco, Jeff Brantley, Sylvester Croom, Robert Khayat, Seth Smith, Gene Stallings, John Smoltz and Sarah Thomas.

A Philadelphia, Miss. native, McAfee played for the Choctaws from 1987-90 and is the all-time leader in rushing yards (4,416), attempts (811), rushing touchdowns (38) and all-purpose yards (6,230). He helped lead MC to Gulf South Conference championships in 1988 and 1990, as well as, advancing to the 1989 NCAA Division II national championship game, a contest the Choctaws won over Jacksonville State, 3-0. McAfee was named an All-American in 1990 and finished third in the Harlon Hill Trophy voting, honoring the top Division II players in the nation.

McAfee went on to play for the New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played in 194 games over 16 years, including 122 in two stints with the Saints. Picked by the Saints in the sixth round of the 1991 NFL Draft, he played for three of the club's five division champion teams and has been affiliated with the team for all five, including the 2009 Super Bowl XLIV Championship campaign.

Currently in his seventh year as the Director of Player Personnel for the Saints, McAfee has a wide-range of responsibilities centered around helping players and their families improve their quality of life as well as invest in their futures. He also organizes continuing college education opportunities, internships, life skills training seminars, financial education classes and family assistance.
