Valdosta State Wins Sixth Consecutive GSC Softball Title

Cullman, ALValdosta State continued its Gulf South Conference Softball dynasty, outgunning rival Alabama Huntsville, 11-7, en route to its sixth consecutive Conference Championship.
No. 2 seed VSU upended No. 1 seed UAH for the second time in the Tournament after squeaking past the Chargers yesterday, 4-3.
Alabama Huntsville advanced to the Title Game easily, shutting out No. 5 Delta State in the first game of the final day, 10-0. UAH recorded all the runs they needed in the bottom of the first inning when Mary Kelley blasted a two-run homerun. The Chargers added two more in the third and put the game on ice in the fifth with six runs. Nicole Bobrowski made the most out of her pinch-hit opportunity, blasting the game-sealing, three-run blast with two outs on the board. Whitney Toler ruled the mound, recording her 12th win via her third shutout this season.
Offensive fireworks headlined the final game of the day as Valdosta State and Alabama Huntsville combined for 18 runs on 29 total hits. VSU scored early and often, answering UAH’s run in the top of the first with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Chelsea Canara gave the Lady Blazers a 3-1 lead via a two-run single and the defending champions never trailed the rest of the way. UAH pulled within two runs in the top of the fifth, but VSU answered with three runs in the bottom. Courtney Albritton ignited the big inning by blasting a two-run homer marking her second round-tripper of the game. The Chargers did not go away quietly in the final frame, scoring two more runs before the Blazers closed the door for good.
