Cyr Will Not Return as UWF Softball Coach
PENSACOLA, Fla. –
Tami Cyr will no longer serve as the head softball coach at
West Florida, athletic director
Dave Scott announced on Tuesday.
“We appreciate Coach Cyr’s service to the softball program at the University of West Florida,” Scott said. “We have decided to move in a different direction, and we wish her well in future endeavors.”
Cyr, one of just two softball coaches in UWF history, won 872 games in 21 seasons, which is No. 2 all-time in Gulf South Conference annuls. She had only two seasons where her team finished under .500, a run that included three GSC Championships, 19 GSC Tournament appearances, 10 NCAA South Region Tournament appearances and two trips to the NCAA National Tournament in 2000 and 2003. In 2005, the Argonauts had arguably their best season under Cyr as they went 60-6, 25-1 in the GSC.
This season, UWF finished 28-23 overall and 16-13 in GSC play. The Argonauts were ranked in each of the South Region rankings and were in the mix for their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2010. But a 2-4 finish kept the team out of the national postseason tournament.
Until a permanent head coach has been named, assistant coach
Melissa Paul will act as the interim head coach.
