Birmingham, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference Baseball Tournament will again have a new neutral site for the third-consecutive season as the University of Alabama at Birmingham will court the tournament field of eight teams.
The Gulf South Conference and UAB have agreed in principle to hold the GSC Tournament at Young Memorial Field in Birmingham, Ala., as this assured the tournament remained on neutral ground for a 13
th-consecutive season. This year’s primary sponsor will be The RedZone Sports Bar & Grill, for more information, visit its website at
www.theredzonebham.com. This marks the first time in the rich history of GSC baseball that the tournament will take place in Birmingham, Ala., and at UAB. Young Memorial Field seats a capacity of 1,000 people.
"We are delighted to bring our baseball championship tournament to the Magic City, home of so many other great college sports events," GSC Commissioner Nate Salant said. "It’s always a challenge to find centrally-located neutral sites for baseball, so we were fortunate that UAB has an away series and that the University of Alabama in Huntsville's athletic director, Dr. EJ Brophy, has strong ties to UAB. He was very helpful with getting this done, and UAH will serve as the host school.”
The Commissioner went on to say, “The GSC will play at a great facility in a central location at a major D1 school, so we are deeply indebted to UAB Director of Athletics Brian Mackin, Director of Facilities & Operations Reid Adair and their veteran baseball coach Brian Shoop, for welcoming us with open arms."
Weather permitting, The RedZone Sports Bar & Grill GSC Baseball Tournament will kick off on Friday, May 2, and will run through Tuesday, May 6. Check
