GSC Announces Football Players of the Week, November 17

Birmingham, AL--West Georgia running back Seth Hinsley and Delta State linebacker Rory Island have been named the Gulf South Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games played in Week 11 of the 2014 season.  Delta State placekick Vince Sciorrotta was also tabbed the Special Teams Player of the Week and Florida Tech quarterback Mark Cato earned the Freshman of the Week.

Hinsley collects his first-ever honor and is the UWG's first Offensive winner since 2011, after leading the Wolves to a 31-17 road win at in-state rival Shorter on Saturday.  The senior turned-in a career day versus the Hawks, carrying the ball 34 times for a career-best 196 yards and four touchdowns.  The Norcross, Ga. native tied UWG's record for rushing TDs in a game and his four scores were also the most by a GSC player this season.

Island earns the first accolade of his career and he is the second DSU defender to post laurels this year.  The senior spearheaded the Statesmen's defense in a 27-3 home victory over in-state rival Mississippi College, racking up a career-best 15 total tackles, including nine solo stops.  The Waveland, Miss. native was also active in the MC's backfield, notching 2.0 tackles for a loss of 15 yards and one sack.

Sciorrotta secures his second career honor  and is DSU's first Special Teams award winner of 2014.  The sophomore provided a perfect performance in the Statesmen's win over MC, hitting both of his field goal attempts and going 3-for-3 on point-after kicks.  The Cumming, Ga. native delivered from 27 yards with 96 seconds in the first half and he capped the fourth quarter with a 31-yarder.

Cato secures his seventh Freshman accolade of the year after leading FIT to a near-upset of West Georgia, 31-29.  The Alachua, Fla. native completed 15-of-34 passes for 310 yards and two touchdowns, while also running 11 times for 46 yards and one TD.
