Birmingham, AL--West Alabama quarterback Kyle Caldwell and West Georgia safety Carlos Hutton have been named the Gulf South Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games played in Week Seven of the 2014 season.  West Georgia punter James Dugan was also tabbed the Special Teams Player of the Week and Florida Tech wide receiver Terrance Bynum earned the Freshman of the Week.
Caldwell is UWA's first winner of the year, via his third honor of his career after a record-setting effort in Thursday's 55-10 win at Shorter.  The senior accounted for five total touchdowns, including four through the air and another on a blocked field goal attempt.  The Dadeville, Ala. native completed 21-of-25 passes for 245 yards, setting the school record career touchdowns (63) and the single-game mark for completion percentage (84%).  Caldwell gave the Tigers a 7-3 lead just nine seconds into the second quarter when he scooped up a blocked field goal attempt and scampered 26 yards for a score.  He closed the first half by tossing touchdowns on three consecutive possessions.
Hutton is the second different UWG defender to collect honors this season after spearheading his defense in a 24-16 home upset of No. 9 Delta State.  The junior halted a pair of potential scoring drives, intercepting a pass at the Wolves' one-yard line in the first quarter and grabbing another INT in UWG's end zone in the third period.  The Carrollton, Ga. native placed third on the team with six total tackles, while also breaking up another pass and defending three more pass attempts.
Dugan records the Wolves' second Special Teams laurel of the year.  The junior gave UWG an edge in field position versus DSU, booming seven punts for 302 yards and a 43.1 average.  The Carrollton, Ga. native booted a 63 yarder, forced two touchbacks and placed another inside the 20-yard line.
Bynum gives FIT its sixth Freshman winner following quarterback Mark Catos' five previous honors.  The Mount Dora, Fla. native tallied a career-high four receptions for 32 yards led by his second career touchdown for 12 yards that knotted the score at 24-24 at the eight-minute mark of the third quarter.
