2013 All-GSC Women's Tennis Team Released

Birmingham, AL—The Gulf South Conference proudly announces its 2013 Women’s Tennis All-Conference Team.
Six schools landed at least one player on the First or Second Team.
Two-time Defending GSC Champion West Florida posted four overall, led by three First Teamers.
Valdosta State also accounted for four spots, including two on the First Team.
North Alabama garnered two on the First Team and one on the Second, while all three of
West Alabama’s standouts came on the Second Team.
Delta State added a First Team member, while
Alabama-Huntsville placed one Second Teamer.
UWF’S KOCHANOVA IS GSC PLAYER OF THE YEAR
West Florida recorded its third consecutive
GSC Player of the Year when
junior Monika Kochanova was selected by the GSC Coaches. Kochanova follows Barbara Oliveira in 2012 and Taylor Brewster in 2011. The Bratislava, Slovakia native helped guide UWF to a perfect league slate and its third straight GSC Title. She enters this weekend’s action ranked No. 26 in the ITA Singles rankings and No. 10 in Doubles.
UWF’S NINA BUBELOVA NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Nina Bubelova was tabbed
GSC Freshman of the Year, marking the first
West Florida winner since 2010. Bubelova was a key cog in UWF’s perfect run through league play and its third straight Conference Crown. The Považská Bystrica, Slovakia native compiled a 14-7 singles record, led by a 10-7 mark at the No. 3 spot. She also teamed with Monika Kochanova to form the No. 10 Doubles team in the country.
UWF’S RACINE THREE-PEATS AS COACH OF THE YEAR
For the second time in his career,
West Florida’s Derrick Racine claimed his third consecutive
GSC Coach of the Year award. Racine also ran up four in a row from 1999-2002 and this year’s laurel increased his all-time league lead to nine. He guided the Argos to their third straight Conference Crown and a No. 9 national ranking entering this weekend’s NCAA South Region Tournament.
ALL-GSC TEAM
Highlighting the 2013 All-Conference Team is
three-time All-GSC First Team selection,
North Alabama senior Mackenzie Bishop. Bishop became just the 19
th player to be selected three times in a career.
Two-time honorees include
Valdosta State sophomore Michelle Fischer and
junior Alina Nagel and
West Florida senior Luiza Sonnervig. Fischer returns from 2012, while Nagel is back after making the 2011 First Team and the 2012 Second Team. Sonnervig is also back from 2011.
