Birmingham, AL—The Gulf South Conference announced the selection of its 2013 Women’s Golf All-Conference Team today.
GSC Champion West Florida and Tournament runner-up
West Georgia accounted for all five players on the All-GSC Team, led by UWF’s three honoree.
UWF SWEEPS INDIVIDUAL HONORS
West Florida’s Camila Sevillano earned her second consecutive
GSC Player of the Year award after claiming the honor as a freshman in 2012. Sevillano became UWF’s seventh straight Player of the Year dating back to 2007. The Cali, Colombia turned in an impressive season capped by her second straight GSC Individual Medalist performance at the 2013 GSC Tournament. She played in all nine of the Argonauts’ regular season tournaments, holding the school’s best stroke average of 77.25 over 20 rounds played. Sevillano recorded three Top Five efforts with her top finish coming in at second place at the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate.
West Florida also provided the
GSC Freshman of the Year for the second year in a row when
Elin Olsson claimed the 2013 accolade. Olsson was one of just two Argos to play in all nine tournaments this season, recording a 77.35 stroke average in 20 rounds. The Mantorp, Sweden native posted three Top 10 efforts during the spring, led by a second-place effort at the GSC Tournament.
Bryan Clarke celebrated his first season leading the UWF program by capturing the
GSC Coach of the Year. Clarke guided the Argonauts to their second straight GSC Tournament Title earlier this week at Tunica National Golf Club. West Florida is ranked No. 13 in the NGCA Top 25 poll and No. 7 in the NCAA Regional rankings.
ALL-GSC TEAM
For the second consecutive year, the All-GSC Women’s Golf is comprised entirely of underclassmen.
All but one of the honorees gained previous post-season laurels, led by a trio returning from 2012.
West Florida sophomore’s Aimee Paterson and
Camila Sevillano are back from a year ago along with
West Georgia sophomore Jerrah Baker.
UWG’s Jaime Jordan returns after a one-year hiatus when she was tabbed to the Second Team in 2011. Completing the All-GSC list is Freshman of the Year,
UWF’s Elin Olsson. All five of the GSC Team members shot All-Tournament scores at the 2013 Championship.
