2012-13 All-GSC Women's Basketball Honors

Birmingham, AL—The Gulf South Conference is proud to announce its All-GSC Women’s Basketball honors for the 2012-13 season.
Seven GSC schools landed at least one post-season honoree, while
Delta State,
North Alabama and
West Alabama claimed two members. UWA posted two First Team winners, while DSU and UNA provided one on the First and Second Teams.
Alabama-Huntsville lone member came on the First Team, while
Valdosta State,
West Florida and
West Georgia earned Second Team designations.
UAH’S HAMMON NAMED PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Junior guard Jasmine Hammon became just the second UAH standout to take home the
GSC Player of the Year. Hammon is the first Lady Charger to earn the honor since Kim Young in 2002.
The Muscle Shoals, AL native finished the regular season No. 1 in the league in scoring (18.1), No. 6 in three-point percentage (.350—41-117) and steals (2.0) and No. 9 in three-pointers made (1.5). Hammon became the school’s career leader in points on February 23
rd and she has scored in double-digits in every game this season.
DSU’S RHODES SELECTED FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Delta State provided the
GSC Freshman of the Year for the second year in a row.
Guard Chelsey Rhodes took her turn this year, following teammate Rhandi Ball’s selection last year while also becoming DSU’s eighth all-time winner.
The Monticello, AR native started in all but one of the Lady Statesmen’s 26 games this season, placing 10
th in the GSC and second on the team with 12.1 points per game. Rhodes also enters the post-season ranking second in the league in three-point percentage (.393—42-107), fourth in free throw percentage (.798—71-89), fifth in field goal percentage (.447—101-226) and sixth in three-pointers made (1.6).
UNA’S FOWLER IS COACH OF THE YEAR
North Alabama Head Coach Terry Fowler garnered his second
GSC Coach of the Year award in three seasons. Fowler guided the Lions to a No. 2 seed in the GSC Tournament, finishing just one game behind first place. He also took home the honor in 2011 after UNA advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
ALL-GSC TEAM OVERVIEW
UAH’s Jasmine Hammon and
UWA’s Brittany Weathers are the lone returning members from last year’s All-GSC Teams. Hammon makes a repeat appearance on the First Team, while Weathers makes the jump from the 2012 Second Team.
Rounding out the First Team are
Delta State forward Rhandi Ball,
North Alabama forward Mekena Randle and
West Alabama guard Nikki Jordan. Ball and Second Team teammate
Seneca Walton are the only sophomore’s on post-season list.
Completing the Second Team are
UNA forward Nichelle Filmore,
VSU guard/forward Brittney Nelson,
UWF guard Hanna Vette and
UWG guard/forward Mone Peoples.
