Birmingham, AL—The Gulf South Conference is proud to announce its All-GSC Men’s Basketball honors for the 2012-13 season. 
                Seven GSC schools landed at least one player on the post-season list, led by Valdosta State which garnered three overall winners via three Second Team stars.  Alabama-Huntsville was the only other school to place multiple honorees, placing two on the First Team.  Christian Brothers, Delta State and West Florida completed the First Team, while North Alabama and West Alabama rounded out the Second Team.
 
UAH’S SMITH NAMED GSC PLAYER OF THE YEAR
                For the third consecutive year, a UAH player was involved at the top of the GSC Player of the Year voting.  Senior guard Jaime Smith took home this season’s honor, following teammate Zane Campbell’s win in 2011 and Josh Magette’s Co-Player of the Year win in 2012.  Smith is also UAH’s fifth all-time winner and he is the brother of the school’s first-ever winner in 2001, Joe Smith.
                The two-time GSC Player of the Week winner guided the Chargers to their third consecutive No. 1 GSC Tournament seed this season.  The Birmingham, AL native is tops in the league in free throw percentage (.891—156-175) and assists (4.7) and is second in scoring (18.2) and third in three-point percentage (.395—64-162) and assist/turnover ratio (1.8).
 
UAH’S DEDRICK TABBED FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
                Guard Wayne Dedrick collects Alabama-Huntsville’s sixth all-time GSC Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Year.  Dedrick saw action in all 26 games for the Chargers and started the final four games of the regular season.  The Tuscaloosa, AL native enters the post-season, ranked second in the league in three-point percentage (.418—61-146) and third on the team in scoring (11.8).
 
CBU’S NIENABER WINS THIRD COACH OF THE YEAR
                Christian Brothers Head Coach Mike Nienaber posted his third all-time GSC Coach of the Year award, first since 2009.  Nienaber guided the Bucs to the No. 2 seed in the 2013 GSC Tournament despite the loss of two key starters due to injury.  CBU enters this week ranked No. 7 in the NCAA Regional Poll and seek to return to the GSC and NCAA South Regional finals for the second year in a row.
 
ALL-GSC TEAM OVERVIEW
                Alabama-Huntsville’s Jaime Smith and Zane Campbell each return to the All-GSC First Team for the second time in their respective careers.  Smith is back for the second year in a row, while Campbell return’s after a one-year hiatus.  Campbell’s 2013 honor marks the fourth straight year that he has been placed on the First or Second Team. 
                Rounding out the First Team is Christian Brothers forward Michael Drake, Delta State forward Terry Leake, Jr. and West Florida guard/forward Ellis Young III
                Valdosta State leads the Second Team by notching three of the five members: forwards James Anacreon and Josh Sparks and guard Patrick Diop.  Completing the Second Team was North Alabama guard Rashaun Clairborne and West Alabama forward Steven Samuels.
