Complete All-Academic Release -- Academic Honor Roll

Birmingham, AL—The Gulf South Conference proudly announces its 2012-13 GSC Winter Sports All-Academic Teams.  A total of 13 student-athletes were selected including six Men’s Basketball standouts and seven Women’s Basketball honorees.
The Winter All-Academic Team is selected by the Gulf South Conference Sports Information Directors (SIDs) and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) in a joint vote.  Nominees must meet all three of the following qualifications to appear on the ballot: 1) an overall grade point average (G.P.A.) of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale for their entire academic career, 2) a starter or significant contributor to the squad, and 3) leadership, academic curriculum and community service.  SIDs and FARs are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. Freshman are not eligible, nor is any student who has not spent a full year in residence at the sponsoring GSC member and passed 24 semester hours or 36 quarter-hours towards an identifiable degree program during the year at that GSC member.  The number of student-athletes selected in each sport is determined by the number of positions normally involved in the playing of that sport.  Ties are not broken.

MEN’S BASKETBALL:

The 2012-13 Men’s Basketball All-Academic Team is headlined by Alabama-Huntsville senior guard Xavier Baldwin who returns to the squad for the third consecutive seasonChristian Brothers earned three total honorees led by junior guard Trey Casey who secured a unanimous selection.  Casey was also named the 2013 GSC Tournament Most Outstanding Player after leading the Bucs to their second league crown.  Completing CBU’s trio was senior forward Pat Graham and junior guard Cory McArthy.  Rounding out the Men’s Basketball Team was North Alabama point guard Keynan Jackson and West Georgia senior forward Brett Seljak.  Seljak and Casey were also the lone 4.00 grade-point-average members.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL:
Seven first-time winners comprised this year’s Women’s Basketball All-Academic Team.  Alabama-Huntsville and West Florida added two members each.  Senior guard Morgan Duncan and senior forward Natalie Kelley helped guide UAH to it’s first-ever GSC Tournament Title earlier this month.  Senior forward Emily Erland and junior forward Jaymie Druding represented UWF on the squad.
Valdosta State senior guard/forward Brittney Nelson was the only member to also earn All-Conference laurels after advancing to the 2013 Second Team.  Completing the Academic list were a pair of sophomore guards: Christian Brorthers’ Breanna Ridgell and North Alabama’s Lauren Faris.
