Birmingham, Ala. — The Gulf South Conference proudly announces its 2012 Women’s Tennis All-Conference Team.  GSC Champion West Florida and runner-up Valdosta State each led the way with four All-GSC members. North Alabama and Delta State each had two selections, while West Alabama had a single selection. 

UWF’s OLIVEIRA NAMED TOP PLAYER

West Florida senior Barbara Oliveira became the 10th Argonaut to claim the GSC Player of the Year award and is the second consecutive student-athlete from her school honored. She is ranked No. 29 in the ITA Division II national singles rankings with a 9-7 record, seeing all of her time at the No. 1 position. Oliveira had a 4-0 record against GSC opponents and also holds a 14-7 doubles record, with all 21 matches coming alongside Marianna Sonnervig at the No. 2 position.

VSU’s FISCHER NAMED TOP FRESHMAN

Valdosta State’s Michelle Fischer was named GSC Freshman of the Year and is the 11th VSU freshman to take home the award, first since 2009. She played the No.1 singles and doubles position for the Lady Blazers, going 10-6 in doubles with partner Juliana Boehm and 5-6 in singles.

UWF’S RACINE NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR

For the second consecutive season, West Florida’s Derrick Racine was named the GSC Coach of the Year. It his eight time being named to the award, extending his league record. He led the Argonauts to a second consecutive GSC Championship and has UWF ranked No. 3 in the South Region and No. 9 in the nation.
