West Florida Anchors 2012 Men's Tennis All-Conference Squad
Birmingham, Ala. — The Gulf South Conference announced its 2012 Men’s Tennis All-Conference Team today.
Three schools were represented led by GSC champion West Florida with four. Valdosta State (3) and Alabama-Huntsville (1) were also represented. The team is comprised of two freshmen, one sophomore, two juniors and three seniors. Three players were members of the 2011 squad, including VSU’s Andrey Pozhidaev, who became the 22nd player to be named to the league’s top team four times.
WEST FLORIDA’S SAVI NAMED TOP PLAYER
West Florida junior Bruno Savi was named the GSC Player of the Year. Savi ranks No. 12 in Division II in the latest ITA national singles rankings and is also No. 2 in the ITA national doubles rankings along with Kevin Ducros. He is 15-2 in singles, including eight wins at the No. 1 spot, and posted a 3-0 singles record in GSC play. Savi also holds a 21-3 record in doubles play, including an 18-3 record alongside Ducros at the No. 1 spot. He is the eighth Argonaut to earn top player honors, the first since 2007.
VALDOSTA STATE’S HERBRING CHOSEN TOP FRESHMAN
For the second consecutive season and fifth time over all, a Valdosta State player earns GSC Freshman of the Year honors. Niklas Herbring played on the Blazers’ No. 1 doubles team, posting a 9-6 record with Christian Hansen. Playing primarily No.3 singles, he is 5-7 on the season.
WEST FLORIDA’S RACINE IS COACH OF THE YEAR
