Birmingham, Ala. — The 2012 Gulf South Conference volleyball regular season has concluded and the best players in the conference have been chosen for this year’s All-GSC teams.
Players were selected for the First or Second Team by vote of the league coaches. In all, 17 players were picked with GSC champion West Florida and Valdosta State leading the way with four honorees. Christian Brothers had three selections, West Alabama and West Georgia each added two and Alabama-Huntsville and North Alabama both had one honoree.
Nine players were previous members of the All-GSC team, including CBU’s Hailey Gillis, who is the only three-time selection on the team. Seniors led the way with nine selections (six on the First Team), juniors followed with four, sophomores had three and just one freshman was selected.
Below are the winners of the individual honors, including Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year.

UWF’S DUYN WINS PLAYER OF THE YEAR
West Florida outside hitter Autumn Duyn earned the GSC Player of the Year award.  She is the fourth player in school history selected as the top player and the third consecutive Argonaut to bring home the honor. She was a three-time Defensive Player of the Week and helped the Argonauts to the regular season title and top seed in the GSC Tournament. Duyn hit .244 in 807 attempts this season, finishing seventh in kills per set (2.83) while tied for third in total kills (317) and 10th in points per set (3.32). The sophomore, who was primarily an outside hitter, spent time as the team’s libero as well which helped her to a fourth-place standing in the GSC in digs per set (3.67). Duyn set a UWF record for digs in a match with 37 against Regis and tied a career-high with 21 kills against Florida Southern. She added 13 double-doubles and 18 matches with double-digit kills, five of those with at least 20 digs.

CBU’S HEADRICK EARNS FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Christian Brothers libero Kristina Headrick was named GSC Freshman of the Year. She is just the second Lady Buccaneer to earn the award and first since 2003. Headrick was named GSC Player of the Week after her first week as a collegiate performer and has since led the GSC in digs per set (4.60). The rookie had 30 digs in her first career match against Tiffin and topped that total with a season-high 35 in an upset win over West Florida. Headrick had double-digit digs in 22 of her 26 appearances, eight of those topping the 20-dig mark. She currently has 446 digs (second in the GSC), 55 assists and 19 service aces.

CBU’S HWANG EARNS COACH OF THE YEAR
Christian Brothers head coach In-Sik Hwang was named winner of the Coach of the Year Award. It is the second time he has earned the award in his 12 seasons at CBU, adding to the award he won 2010. Hwang, who won his 200th career match this season, led the Lady Buccaneers to an 18-11 record, 11-5 in conference play, and helped CBU hand regular season winner West Florida its only conference defeat. Hwang has a career record of 200-157 and his team earned the No. 2 seed in the GSC Tournament this year.
