GSC Announces Baseball Weekly Honors, March 8

EAST DIVISION

West Florida right fielder Greg Pron (SR, 6-6, 195, Daphne, AL) is the Gulf South Conference East Division Player of the Week for the week ending March 6th.


Pron earns the first honor of his career after making history last week for the Argonauts. The senior went 8-for-18 in five games, with six RBI, two doubles and two homeruns, but he also set the school record for career RBIs with 138. The Daphne, AL native hit safely in all five contests, led by a pair of homeruns in Saturday’s league doubleheader versus Valdosta State.

 

West Florida starting pitcher Jason Postill (SR, 6-0, 185, Orlando, FL) is the Gulf South Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 6th.

Postill is UWF’s third consecutive Pitcher of the Week. The senior remained undefeated for the season (5-0), thanks to a dominate performance in a 15-1 win over Valdosta State. He notched a complete-game victory, tossing seven innings with four strikeouts, while allowing six hits, one earned run. The Orlando, FL native took a shutout into the seventh inning only to give up a solo homerun before closing out the victory.


 

WEST DIVISION

Arkansas Tech shortstop Chris Reese (JR, 5-11, 180, Gilbert, AZ) is the Gulf South Conference West Division Player of the Week for the week ending March 6th.


Reese is ATU’s second winner in three weeks, leading the Wonder Boys to a 4-0 mark last week. The junior batted .714 and added a 1.071 slugging percentage in 14 at-bats. He tallied 10 total hits led by two doubles and one homerun along with six RBI. The Gilbert, AZ native scored 10 runs, stole four bases and also drew four walks. He capped the week with a 4-for-5 effort in a 23-14 win over Lambuth where he collected two RBI and one double.

 

Southern Arkansas starting pitcher Ziggie Vanderwall (JR, 6-1, 185, Rockford, IL) is the Gulf South Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 6th.

Vanderwall posts SAU’s third pitching honoree in as many weeks. The senior celebrated his first career start in grand fashion becoming just the 10th player in GSC history to record 17 strikeouts in a game. SAU clipped LSU-Shreveport, 4-3, thanks to his command on the mound. The Rockford, IL native posted the win, going 7 1/3 innings and allowing just three hits and three earned runs. He set the school record for strikeouts in a game and became the first GSC pitcher to accomplish the feat since 2007.
