Valdosta State forward Josh Sparks (SR, 6-9, 195, Savannah, GA) earns his second career honor and first since the 2010-11 season, guiding the Blazers to a road split in their first week of league action. He averaged a double-double behind 13.5 points and 11.5 rebounds, while also averaging 5.0 blocks and posting a 62.5 field goal percentage.
The senior opened the week, playing just 28 minutes of an 83-70 victory at Union, scoring 13 points and pulling down eight rebounds. The Savannah, GA native saved his best for last, nearly posting a triple-double in a 95-94 overtime setback at North Alabama. Sparks notched his second double-double of the season, netting 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds in 39 minutes. He did not stop there, blocking nine shots which were the most in a game by a GSC player since 1998-99.
