West Georgia return specialist Denarius Appling (SO, 5-8, 155, Griffin, GA).
Appling posts his third career honor, second in 2011 after racking up 216 total return yards in UWG’s 21-5 home triumph over Arkansas-Monticello. The sophomore logged all four of the Wolves’ returns, fielding two punts for 170 yards and two touchdowns and adding two kickoff returns for 46 yards. The Griffin, GA native gave West Georgia a 7-3 lead at 11:07 in the second quarter after an 83-yard TD return. Next, he capped UWG’s scoring at 12:23 in the final frame by reeling off an 87-yard TD return. Appling set a school record for TD punt returns in a game and he also became just the fourth player in GSC history to accomplish the feat. He has three punt returns for a score in 2011, which ranks second in the league’s record books.
