The Blazers defeated the Tigers in large part due to Dawson's timely score. His 80-yard interception return for a touchdown came in the fourth quarter when UWA had marched down to the VSU 27-yard line, looking to cut it to a one score game. His score put VSU up by 20, helping clinch the victory. He is the second straight Valdosta State defender to win this award.
